Summary
Pinealon (Glu-Asp-Arg) is a tripeptide that has multiple longevity promoting and nootropic mechanisms. It is currently being studied for its potential benefits in the body, which include improved cognitive function, increased energy levels, enhanced memory recall and more.
Pinealon was originally isolated from cortexin, indicating that it is naturally present in bovine or porcine cortex, specifically those less than 1 year old. In one study, it improved spatial orientation and attention in aging rhesus monkeys while increasing the speed of learning by 50%. It has also been shown to improve cognition in healthy/young models in male wrestlers and rodents.
For some detail on its neuromodulating mechanisms, pinealon enhances the synthesis of serotonin through TPH1. Because it does this rather than SERT inhibition, it has a more favorable side effect profile compared to SSRIs and other SERT modulators, meaning pinealon is a good candidate for increasing seretonin.
For its mechanisms to do with longevity, pinealon has many potent mechanisms of action for longevity including but not limited to; observed GDF11 expression increase, lowered caspase 3 expression, increased irisin, upregulated HSPA1A by 3x, and more.
